April 30th is my birthday! I wanted to do something fun to celebrate and I contacted several sponsors to help me with my birthday bash!
I love the concept of Kimber Bears and the purpose it has for giving to children’s hospitals, police departments, fire stations, and child and family safe houses or shelters. Kimberbell and Shannon Fabrics have paired up to create a movement.
Let me tell you a bit about my experience with making the Kimber Bears. First off, I love the instructions for both the Machine Embroidery and Sewing Pattern. They are both 16 pages and very clear on how to put the bears together.
The Embroidery Files are separated in a folder for all embroidery machines. That means if you want to batch out the arms, legs, head, body in different fabrics to sew and donate, then you will love the ease of it.
“Sweetly sized for little hands, the bear can be packed in comfort kits prepared for children in foster care or entering emergency shelters as well as hospitals and other charities for children.”
I have the BERNINA 790 Plus machine embroidery attachment. I used the large oval hoop that fits the 5×7″ area. Make sure you use the lightweight cut away that has no mesh, and water soluble topping. I didn’t have Kimberbell’s Paper Tape, so I recommend getting that. Instead I used scotch tape. Definitely grab the Clover 2 Point Turner it will help get your corners nice and clean, plus it will help in stuffing in the Poly Fill. To turn I used my EZ Point Turner by Sue O’Very Designs. Then get your cuddle Shannon fabric!
I printed both the embroidery and sewing instructions. I did both processes, and I will say I lean more towards the embroidery files for the precise stitching on the face (nose, eyes and mouth), and the heart patch. It alerts you when to change the threads. You still have to stitch the arms, legs, and ears on the sewing machine before stuffing the body and head. Then you secure the head to body with hand stitching.
One of my favorites! They turned out so cute! Look at the yummy cuddle
Shannon Fabric has donated a box of Fun Fetti Strips for me to giveaway for my Birthday Bash! What I am going to do is pick two winner to send some of these strips in hopes that you will join in and make the Kimber Bear and donate to children’s hospitals, police departments, fire stations, and child and family safe houses or shelters. If you don’t have a machine embroidery machine you can use your sewing machine!
